You Are Not Failing Because the Plan Doesn’t Work
Most people don’t fail at body recomposition because the plan doesn’t work.
They fail because they don’t follow directions.
And I want to be very clear about what I mean by that.
I don’t mean motivation.
I don’t mean discipline.
I don’t mean willpower.
I mean directions.
When you hire a coach, you are doing the equivalent of putting a destination into a GPS. You are saying, “This is where I want to go.” Lose body fat. Build muscle. Feel strong again. Have energy. Stay independent as you age.
Once that destination is set, the GPS gives you the most efficient route to get there.
Not the most exciting route.
Not the route that feels best emotionally on any given day.
The most efficient route.
And this is where people get tripped up.
The GPS says, “Turn right.”
And instead, people say, “I don’t feel like turning right today.”
So they turn left. Or they keep going straight. Or they ignore it altogether.
That looks like skipping workouts because the week was stressful.
It looks like eating whatever you want because you “deserve it.”
It looks like deciding you know better than the plan in the moment.
Nothing bad happens immediately. The GPS doesn’t scream at you. It simply recalculates.
You are still going to get there.
It’s just going to take longer.
This is one of the biggest belief shifts people need to make.
Missing a turn doesn’t mean you failed.
It means you added time.
As one of our Mavy Wellness client put it, “I was just frustrated with not having a plan.” That frustration wasn’t about effort. She was doing plenty. It was about wandering.
Here’s the real problem.
Most people think inconsistency is the issue.
It’s not.
The issue is selective listening.
They follow the plan when they are in a good mood.
They ignore it when they are tired, stressed, bored, or emotional.
Then they wonder why progress feels slow or unpredictable.
Imagine doing that with a GPS on a road trip you’ve never taken before.
You wouldn’t expect to “accidentally” end up at your destination. You wouldn’t hope that turning left and right at random would somehow work out.
Yet this is exactly how most people approach their health.
Some people don’t even get directions at all. They just drive. They copy workouts from Instagram. They follow conflicting nutrition advice. They hope that being active and eating “mostly healthy” will be enough.
It rarely is.
That’s why coaches exist. Not because you are incapable. But because you cannot see traffic, construction, and detours from inside your own head. Experience teaches you that.
As another client said, “We know the action is simple, but doing it sometimes is very challenging.” The plan was never the problem. Execution was.
Here’s the belief I want you to adopt.
Progress is not about perfection.
It is about willingness to re listen.
Life will happen. You will miss workouts. You will eat off plan. You will take wrong turns.
That does not disqualify you.
What disqualifies you is deciding that because you went off track, the directions no longer matter.
The GPS always recalculates.
A good coach always adjusts.
The only way you do not reach your destination is when you stop trusting the directions entirely.
So trust the GPS.
Trust the process.
Follow the directions more often than you ignore them.
And when you go off track, do not spiral. Just get back on the route.
That is how sustainable transformation actually works, especially after 50.
If this belief shift resonated with you, make sure you subscribe to this Substack so you don’t miss future posts. This is where I break down what actually works, why most people struggle, and how to build a fit, healthy body that supports the life you want to live.
Because a fit and healthy body is not about aesthetics.
It is the foundation for an incredible life.
