Saturday morning. Five and a half weeks into my own body recomposition. I stepped on the scale and it read 188.9 pounds.

The week before I had been at 187.8. Progress photos were looking good. My stomach was getting tighter, my back was showing more definition, and I could feel the work starting to show up in the mirror. Then a full week of hitting my calories, tracking every meal, completing all three strength sessions, nailing my protein target, and I ended up heavier than when I started the week.

The old version of most people does one of two things in that moment. They slash their calories and add more exercise. Or they spiral into frustration and quietly abandon the plan. I did neither. Because before I changed anything, I asked myself four questions. The same four questions I have been using with clients for years, and the same four questions that almost always reveal that the plan does not need to change at all.
